Six members of the Victorian X Class were rebuilt and became the XR Class. Three other units were later built new to the same design, entering service in early 2006. A further three were built as cabless ‘slave’ units to become the XRB Class. The road number XR556 was never used. The XR Class locomotives are in freight service with Pacific National.
