The South Coast line extends south to Bomaderry, which is sometimes referred to as Bomaderry-Nowra because the railway station is at Bomaderry, but the larger town of Nowra is located across the Shoalhaven River. The line shares the Illawarra suburban line to Waterfall. Immediately to the south of Redfern station, trains servicing the South Coast line pass underneath other tracks through the Illawarra Dive. Electric trains operate between Sydney and Kiama, with services typically formed by H Set Oscar trains. Endeavour DMU railcars operate between Kiama and Bomaderry. The line is double track to Unanderra, with the exception of single-track sections through a tunnel between Coalcliff and Scarborough, and near Coniston. It is single track between Unanderra and Bomaderry, with crossing loops located at Dapto, Albion Park, Shellharbour Junction, Bombo and Kiama. Weekday services typically alternate between trains operating from Central to Kiama and trains operating from Waterfall to Port Kembla. Some services commence at Bondi Junction on the Eastern Suburbs line. Weekend services typically alternate between trains operating from Bondi Junction to Kiama and trains operating from Thirroul to Port Kembla. Scenic coastal views can be seen from sections of the line, particularly between Stanwell Park and Scarborough, and between Minnamurra and Gerringong.
