Introduced by Westrail in 1997, the Q Class units continue in standard gauge service in Western Australia. They are a further development of Pacific National’s 90 Class, but have a lighter weight. The Q Class was the first locomotive type in Australia to use radial steering bogies, which increase adhesion and reduce wear.
