Sydney’s Metropolis trains were ordered to inaugurate Metro train services in the city in May 2019. The Metropolis model of trains has been used in over 25 cities around the world, and has been adapted for use in Sydney. Trains are single-deck and driverless. Each carriage has three doors to facilitate fast boarding and alighting for passengers, longitudinal seating, and space for wheelchairs. A total of 22 six-car trains entered service in 2019, with more trains ordered to service the extension of the line from Chatswood to Sydenham in 2024. Each set has seating for 378 passengers, with a total capacity of 1152.
