The CSR Class units were built in China in 2012, a departure from the practice for most new Australian locomotives of manufacture in Australia, the United States or Europe. They use the same SDA1 production model as the QBX Class owned by Qube. Ten originally entered service as the CSR Class, but another two were purchased from Bradken Australia in 2016 and renumbered from the BK Class to become CSR011 and CSR012. More members of the class entered service from 2022.
