An initial order of 13 of the 83 Class locomotives entered service in 2008 and 2009. Subsequent orders took the total to 46 units operational with Pacific National by 2012. A further six units were purchased second-hand in 2018, five of which were originally members of the LDP Class. The 83 Class units share the same design as the Aurizon 4100 and ACN classes and the Magnetic Rail Group GWN Class. They are used in freight haulage with Pacific National in Queensland.
