40 members of the 45 Class entered service in New South Wales from 1962 to 1964. Their engines are similar to those of the earlier 44 Class units. They spent most of their working lives in freight service in the western and northern areas of the state. Number 3505 was originally 4505, and is now used as a mobile engine rebuild platform at Junee in New South Wales, while 4532 is stored.
