The 2250 Class locomotives are former 1550, 2130 and 2141 Class that were rebuilt into more powerful units from 2004 to 2009 for heavy coal haulage. 20 members of the 2250 Class were exported to Transnet in South Africa in 2014. The remaining five were rebuilt as model GT22CU-3 for Genesee & Wyoming Australia in 2019. Aurizon’s remaining 2250 Class units are allocated to Whyalla in South Australia.
