The 14 Class units commenced their working lives in 1972 with Danish State Railways, where they were known as the MZ III Class. In 2006 they began operating with Independent Rail Australia. Since entering service in Australia they have been used in various freight operations in New South Wales, including working trip trains in the Sydney suburban area to Cooks River and Botany. They are now owned by Qube Logistics.
